COMMANDER Mark C. Flynn

Founder, Captain Flynn Studios & CFK9 Training Academy

Major Mark C. Flynn is a retired law-enforcement commander, Military Working Dog veteran, instructor, and media personality with more than four decades of operational K-9 experience. His career began in 1984 at the United States Air Force Military Working Dog Academy at Lackland Air Force Base, where he served as a handler, supervisor, and trainer during assignments in the Philippines, Turkey, and Germany, including support of Operation Desert Storm.

In 1995, he joined the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services K-9 Unit — a specialized police force responsible for protecting correctional institutions, conducting narcotics and explosives detection, and responding to critical incidents. Over a 28-year career, Major Flynn served as a prolific handler, frontline supervisor, full-time trainer, Assistant Commander, and ultimately Unit Commander, helping shape one of the most respected correctional K-9 programs in the region.

Today, through Captain Flynn Studios and the Captain Flynn K-9 Training Academy (CFK9), he continues to teach, mentor, and lead. A certified Maryland Police Training Commission Instructor and United States Police Canine Association Detector Trainer, he is widely known for delivering practical, experience-driven instruction to police, corrections, and civilian handlers throughout the Maryland and Washington, D.C. area.

Beyond the training field, Major Flynn has built a strong media presence as a successful podcaster reaching over 10,000 views per week across multiple shows.

His work combines real-world expertise, humor, and straight-talk leadership — reflecting a lifetime spent serving communities, building teams, and training both dogs and people to perform at their highest level.
